Amsterdam Pride Canal Parade

It's Amsterdam - Saturday August 2nd, 2014 - and it's the day for one of the largest gay pride events anywhere in the world. It's party time in the canal city where tens of thousands of gay men and women from throughout Europe descend on Amsterdam for a weekend of huge outdoor parties, much drinking and a canal parade without rival.

It's also the twelfth anniversary of the day that Colin and I met, so join with us now, along with an estimated 350,000 of our closet European friends and enjoy the parade. The weather was fine for the first 75 floats and then the heavens opened - an event that the Rev. Fred Nile would have prayed for.

The atmosphere was full-on party mode by everyone - gay, straight, young, old, families, male, female. It was a time of celebration and acceptance, of empowerment - but also a time to remember our brothers and sisters who remain repressed.

So join us now as ABBA plays loudly in the background, there is jollity throughout the crowds and the colour pink is everywhere.....

Special guest is this year's Eurovision winner, Conchita Wurst

  1. Arrrgh! I typed a comment, selected the "comment as David Hornsby" option, and the comment disappeared. I've had that happen before but haven't learned that I must log in FIRST and then type the comment. (Google should put the login stuff first and then the box for comments. They've done it the other way around, and if you follow that way, you lose the comment.)
    Anyway ...
You obviously had a great day and I'm glad so many European friends joined you to help you celebrate your anniversary. The photos are very high quality and look great on my computer. When your blog comes to an end with the end of your holiday, I'll turn it all into a permanent pdf for you. Will make a great record of your travels. Have fun! D&D
